Each and every child that comes to attend our camp will all have had various forms cancers and other serious illnesses, we only allow children who really need to come out of their respective countries of Belarus Ukraine or Western Russia to take part in the programme.

At our summer camp a child arrives from a mostly very poor background but the main thing is that the child has been very ill with various life threatening illnesses and are in the main undernourished, weak and have deep routed traumatic problems.

Our main objective is to reinstall a lot which has been taken away from the child, this we do by a camp programme that will let the child develop his or her confidence by way of a structured skills and activities including high ropes course, canoeing, swimming, climbing, micro light flying, just to mention a few also trips to the seaside and other visits and treats the main emphasis is on FUN at all times.

We encourage each child to be positive in all that they do day by day, along with a strict balanced diet, vitamin supplements and medication (where required) the children change very quickly and become strong and have a new outlook on life and are able to return home and be able to fight any relapses in their condition in a more positive way.

Some very encouraging reports about the children’s health on the return home come from the Chief Physician of a children’s regional hospital who commented that they had benefited greatly from the programme, also we have had many parents’ comments saying things like they have got a new child! Sent back to them, one with a new lease of life not like the child that they sent to us a month earlier.

All of the team of Camps for Children of Chernobyl are Volunteers who are dedicated and trained in many skills area’s all undergo checks under the Child Protection Act (CRB) we all have one thing in common and that is “helping kids to live”

Soon we will be working closely with the Belarussian government to set up and run a camp programme in an uncontaminated part of Belarus. We will be able to hold many camps throughout the summers then taking volunteers from here to their county.
