Since 1995 Camps for Children of Chernobyl has undertaken a significant programme of assistance and humanitarian aid also providing respite holidays for cancer victims both in America and England.

The Founder and Executive Director Bev Lee in Chicago extended the organization in the summer of 2000 by inviting Dave Chatfield (Director UK) to set up the operation in the UK, Dave had been working with another Chernobyl organization and had considerable experience within this field having operated in the regions, On one convoy distribution run we delivered medical aid and Ambulances to over 15 hospitals and orphanages.

The management structure here in the UK comprises of up to 10 committee members who administer the project, which is legally constituted and registered as a National and International charity, of which we are very proud to have accomplished.

We have to date brought over 120 child cancer victims to Hereford for respite care from both Belarus and the Ukraine (next year we hope to increase the numbers) and distributed many tons of medical supplies and humanitarian aid.

One of our main objectives now is to get up and running, an orphanage and combined center for severely disabled children aged from to 3 – 18 years. It will be for 350 children in total,

All the equipment is now being assembled here in the city everything from tons of children’s clothes to sinks, beds, baths, lighting, etc in fact everything you think that it needs to function and run.

The region that these children are from is so desperately poor due to them not being able to sell any of their food produce due to contamination, they in turn have to eat it otherwise starve, so they can never get out of this terrible situation.

In Hereford we have a team of over 50 loyal and dedicated volunteers all give their time free! No one in the organization gets any salaries or payments from the project at all. The skills range of the team is very broad based from such areas as Pediatric nurses, care workers, Doctor’s, Police, members of HM Forces just to mention but a few. We also have tremendous supporters who together with us work tirelessly to make our work possible.
